The
Little Red Train
Eclectic Homeschool
Online
“Colorful illustrations and easy-to-turn pages make this book fun to read.
The story is a familiar one with its lesson in perseverance and repeated "I
won't give up! I won't give up!" But the storyline is compelling with its
additional examples of compassion and civic virtue. My six-year-old son couldn't
wait to see what happened to the little train and the poor people on the
mountaintop; his interest was held throughout the story, and that's no small
feat for my little wiggle worm!”

The Little Red Train is about believing in yourself
that you can do what you try to do. The BIG engines laughed and made fun of the
Little Red Train, but he didn’t care. He said that he could climb
the mountain and take food to the people at the top of the mountain. While he
was going up the mountain the snow continued to get deeper. He got stuck. He had
a special family with him. They all helped him get out of the snow drift when he
was stuck by shoveling him out. The Mayor of the town said that no train was
coming that day, but a boy heard a “chuff,” “chuff,” “chuff!” It was The
Little Red Train coming up the mountain very slowly with food. Everyone
cheered and the band sang a song. The Little Red Train is a great
story!
Review by Seth Lucas (age 6)
The Little Red Train is a great book for those kids who loved Thomas the
train. This little red train has a wonderful attitude about life. This train is
not like the big trains, yet he or she is adorable and the train wins a gold
medal for its dedication. An appropriate time to buy this book is NOW! It even
has a fun song for children to learn. Sommer has thought of everything, he
included the words and music at the end of the book.
